Often we’re asked,

“Who is The Grandson?”

It’s a good question! And inside of that question is a story that we love to tell. So let’s begin!

From the Heart to Overseas

It all started about 20 years ago, when a young man from Waco, Texas was given a heart to serve others by God. His name is Brett Cox, and his thought was “What is the greatest need that I can serve?”.

It was this question that led him on a journey that resulted in him moving to a country far away from Texas. His answer was that he had only one life to live for God, and the best way to use it would be to serve where God seemed to be needed the most.

A Love for Our Seniors

After 5.5 years of living overseas, and with plans to continue living there indefinitely, Brett came back home to Waco for a short visit of family and friends.

Little did he know, that half-way through that trip, the worldwide coronavirus event would kick off and eliminate the opportunity to return back.

He was effectively stuck in his hometown with his wife and daughter, and soon to realize that the temporary visit would turn into a permanent stay.

That’s when the same question emerged once again “What is the greatest need that I can serve here in Waco?” Much time was spent thinking on this before he came to his conclusion.

Drawing on his experience in caring for his own grandmother, he found his answer to the question once again, ‘the elderly’. “They need the most time and the most help, yet often seem to be neglected.” he explained.

It was then that his new, passionate mission was established, and ‘The Grandson’ got its start.

The Grandson was birthed

In the beginning, Brett was The Grandson. He was the caregiver.

He saw that clients loved him and raved about him as a caregiver. He kept hearing from them how he was a night and day difference from their previous experiences. But why?

His clients provided that answer without asking. Each one told almost identical stories: “I’ve had 6 different caregivers in the past 2 weeks.”, “Sometimes they are late or don’t even show up!”, “Our caregiver plays on their phone too much.”, “I didn’t trust the caregiver in our house.”, etc.

Character & Quality

It was clear that Brett’s character and work ethic had provided a solution to the existing problems clients were faced with. People were getting caregivers who would be late, but Brett was on-time. They had lazy workers before, but Brett was hard-working. Some couldn’t trust previous caregivers, but they trusted Brett quickly. Others were tired of the ‘Selina today, Suzy tomorrow’ style of caregiving, but now thrilled that Brett was their one-and-only caregiver.

That’s when the foundation for The Grandson was established: high character people with an old-school work ethic that treat their clients like family.

Brett believes that though the times might change, this ideology ought not to change. People always come first! If this resonates with you, give us a call (254-242-0772) and feel free to ask for Brett. He’d be honored to meet and talk with you!

“I believe that our loved ones deserve the very best. And I’m on a mission to make Waco’s elderly the most loved, honored, and respected in the country.”
